All You Need to Know About the Network of Motorways in Pakistan

As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Pakistan has been working on expanding its network of motorways to improve transportation and connectivity within the country. However, please note that there might have been further developments since then. Here is a comprehensive overview of the motorway network in Pakistan up until 2021:

  1. M-1 Motorway (Peshawar-Islamabad Motorway):
    • Length: Approximately 155 km
    • Connects Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
    • One of the oldest motorways in Pakistan, completed in the early 2000s.
  2. M-2 Motorway (Islamabad-Lahore Motorway):
    • Length: Approximately 375 km
    • Connects Islamabad to Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.
    • The motorway is one of the most frequently traveled and well-maintained in the country.
  3. M-3 Motorway (Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad):
    • Length: Approximately 53 km
    • Connects Pindi Bhattian (located on the M-2) to Faisalabad, an industrial city in Punjab.
  4. M-4 Motorway (Pindi Bhattian to Multan):
    • Length: Approximately 309 km
    • Connects Pindi Bhattian (located on the M-2) to Multan, a major city in southern Punjab.
  5. M-5 Motorway (Multan to Sukkur):
    • Length: Approximately 392 km
    • Connects Multan to Sukkur, spanning through the province of Sindh.
    • Enhances connectivity between southern Punjab and Sindh.
  6. M-6 Motorway (Sukkur to Hyderabad):
    • Length: Approximately 296 km
    • Connects Sukkur to Hyderabad, further improving connectivity within Sindh province.
  7. M-7 Motorway (Hyderabad to Karachi):
    • Length: Approximately 136 km
    • Connects Hyderabad to Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan.
    • Improves the transportation link between two major urban centers.
  8. M-8 Motorway (Gwadar to Ratodero):
    • Length: Approximately 892 km
    • Connects Gwadar, a deep-sea port in Balochistan, to Ratodero in Sindh.
    • Part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and aims to boost trade and connectivity between Pakistan and China.

Please note that these motorways are subject to ongoing development and expansion, and there may have been new motorway projects initiated since my last update. It’s advisable to refer to more recent and official sources for the latest information on Pakistan’s motorway network.
